Three days left to December. It's the best season for enjoying delicious crab. There are three top brands of crab in Japan: Red king crab, Snow crab, and Hair crab. Today, the forth Saturday of November, is Snow Crab Day. To be precise, it's "Matsuba-gani" Day. Snow crab is called different names depending on where they are landed, such as "Matsuba-gani" and "Echizen-gani." Matsuba-gani is a name of snow crab which is caught in San-in region facing the Sea of Japan.
One of the origins of the name "Matsuba-gani" is that the long and narrow crab leg looks like pine needle called "matsuba."
