I've written 80 posts about Japanese manners and culture. Sometimes I can't find the exact English word to explain some Japanese words. "Komorebi" is one of them.

"Komorebi" is the sunlight that filters down through the trees. But this just stands for a natural phenomenon. Japanese feel more than the phenomenon from this word "komorebi." It has a calm and soft image. When you say "she is like komorebi," it means she has a gentle and warm atmosphere.

According to Ella Frances Sanders, who wrote the article "Untranslatable Words From Other Cultures," explains "komorebi" as below:

"This is the word the Japanese have for when sunlight filters through the trees – the interplay between the light and the leaves."

Using the appropriate phrase is difficult, but interesting!😃
