"Osechi" part 5

"Kohaku-namasu"

"Renkon" or lotus root

"Kurikinton," mashed sweet chestnut with sweet potato

Hi. It's "Osechi" series part 5. I've introduced about "Osechi" dishes over 5 times. Today's menu is "Kohaku-namasu," "renkon," and "kurikinton."😋

"Kohaku-namasu" is made of daikon radish and carrot which are cut into thin strips and pickled in sweetened vinegar. "Kohaku" is red and white, a representation of the very auspicious, and it looks like "mizuhiki," a traditional Japanese strings used to decorate wrapped gifts.

"Renkon" or lotus root is believed to be an auspicious vegetable, because it has lots of holes; through the holes we can look into the future easily and that's why it is a symbol of happy future.

"Kurikinton" is sweet-simmered and sometimes mashed chestnuts with sweet potatoes. Its color is gold, so it means raising money luck and bringing good luck😃

I can't wait to eat "Osechi"😋
