"Oseibo"--year-end gift

"Oseibo" gift wrapped with "noshi" paper

Hello😃

By the way, do you have any plans to give a present to someone special?

In Japan, other than Christmas presents, we have a tradition to give gifts at the end of the year, to those who are important to us, as a symbol of our gratitude. It's called "Oseibo," the year-end gift.

We give those gifts from beginning of December to December 31, if possible until December 20. The price range for them would be around 5,000 yen. Originally, it is proper manners in Japan to give gifts in person, but recently it is common to purchase gifts at department stores and get them delivered. When sending the gifts, the kanji of "oseibo" meaning "end-of-year" is written in calligraphy on white wrapping paper called "noshi-gami" with the name of the sender.

Do you have such cultural traditions in your country?
