"Hatsu-hinode" or the first sunrise of the year with Mt. Fuji
From today, over some times, I'm going to write about "hatsu" or the first things in relation to the new year. I'll call this "hatsu" series.
The first "hatsu" series is "Hatsu-hinode" or the first sunrise of the year. In Japan, the sun has been worshipped as a god. And we have the idea that "Toshigami-sama," the god of the year, comes with the rising sun on New Year's Day. This is why the sunrise on New Year's Day is believed to bring luck. Many people pray with their palms together for the happiness of the year at the sight of the first sunrise.
Some people see "Hatsu-hinode" from high places such as Mt. Fuji. It must be a mind-broadening experience😊
