Kikuzake--Sake with chrysanthemum

Hello.
Today, September 9th, is "Choyo-no-sekku" or "Chrysanthemum festival," one of the five "sekku"s which are the special days in the lunar calendar: "Jinjitsu" on the 7th day of January, "Joshi" the 3rd day of March, "Tango" on the 5th day of May, "Tanabata" on the seventh day of July, and "Choyo" on the ninth day of September.

"Choyo-longivity celebration" originally came from China, and chrysanthemums are believed to be auspicious flowers of longevity. So people celebrate the day by drinking "kikuzake," Japanese sake in which chrysanthemum petals are steeped.
