Heijo-kyo, Japan's ancient capital in Nara period

Heijo-kyu Palace Site

Hi😀 How are you doing? I visited Nara during Golden Week, which is a long holiday in May.

My trip to Nara started with Japan's historic capital, ”Heijo-kyo." This city was built by Empress Genmei, the 43rd Emperor (707-715). The period is called "Nara era."

There used to be Heijo-kyu Palace and cityscape, but now there is a large park with two landmarks. One is "Daigokuden-in," Former Imperial Audience Hall, where important ceremonies were held such as the Emperor's Accession and diplomatic reception. The other is "Suzakumon" Gate, the main gate of Heijo-kyo city.

Kintetsu train runs across the Palace Site

Heijo-kyu Palace Site, one of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara, was registered as World Heritage Site in 1998. And it is unusual in that a train crosses the World Heritage Site. I hope you go there.
