This is the year of the Tiger in the Japanese zodiac. There are twelve animals which correspond to the twelve zodiac sign in Chinese astrology: the Rat, the Ox, the Tiger, the Rabbit, the Dragon, the Snake, the Horse, the Sheep, the Monkey, the Rooster, the Dog, and the Boar. It is due to the order in which each animal gave the new year's greeting to the God.
