"Kaki-zome" or the first writing of the year
Hello.
This is the fifth "Hatsu" series. The word "Hatsu" isn't used in the title, but "zome" of "Kaki-zome" has a meaning of "first" as well.
"Kaki-zome" or the first calligraphy writing is customarily held on January 2nd. Many people write their new year's resolutions or auspicious words with Japanese brushes and ink. And they also burn the paper at a fire festival called "Dondo-yaki," which is usually held on January 15th, in hope of improving their handwriting.
I wrote down my new year's resolution when I was in elementary school, but I haven't since then. Maybe I'll do "Kaki-zome" next new year๐
